“PACIFIC SOJOURN COMING SOON” by André Elhay

Behind the scenes footage of fashion editorials provides a glimpse of what goes into a full production by André Elhay which I’m sure will interest many.

From planning, building up a team, to executing the plans it all takes hard work and effort. The underlying story is a key feature of the editorial so I hope these behind the scenes footage and stills gives you some insight into the shooting conditions from this project.

For now I hope you can enjoy some behind the scenes video production plus some stills photography from the project. In my contribution I will share the finished production from the shoot and will discuss further this project centred around my thoughts and feelings of this production journey.

BETWEEN TRADITION & MODERNITY

I was born June 1963, in San Miguel, Azores also known as the “green islands” in Portugal & a self taught photographer.

My passion is developing long term projects about various subjects, such as popular religiosity, profane festivities, architecture, landscape, nature of world as it transpires.

My inspirational sources comes from the works of Henri Cartier-Bresson, William Eugene Smith, Sebastião Salgado and Cristina García Rodero, among others.

My work has been displayed in Portugal and abroad.

Scott Probst

“Iceland – Northern Exposure”

Scott is a long time film photographer, having started shooting and developing his own black and white images more than 30 years ago. In that time he has shot projects based on stage performance, landscape, rural scenes, and other subjects. More recently he has extended into processing his own colour work and has added medium format to his longstanding 35mm work. As part of developing his photography he has done two long residencies in northern Iceland, in 2015 and 2018. Aside from
this, he has worked as a psychologist for about 30 years and is about to begin a Masters in Fine Art, focusing on landscape photography.

Hi! I’m Daniel Cai, a communication and media arts student at UTS currently, also working part-time at Blackbird VFX with the goal of becoming a VFX compositor. I got into photography about 4 years ago, after years of watching my dad frame and compose family photos. My foray into film photography followed about a year after my first camera. I don’t really know what genre my photography work falls into. It’s just whatever scene, object, or juxtaposition that calls to me in the moment.

Isabel Sylvie

AFPS Feature: “Wākāinga; MEMORIES OF A HOMELAND”

Isabel Sylvie is a film photographer from Melbourne, Australia. She was born in Costa Rica, spent her childhood in New Zealand, and currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. She returns home to New Zealand annually to reconnect with her home there, and takes as much film as she can afford (preferably Velvia, Ektar, Portra and Provia).

Isabel most commonly photographs on a Minolta Alpha Sweet II body, with a sigma 28-105mm lens.

Aside from shooting film, Isabel currently works in academic libraries, and is completing a postgraduate qualification in Psychology, with a specific fascination regarding neuropsychology & neuroplasticity. When not studying she is chasing where to get the most incredible pasta and negroni’s.

On this trip Kirk only took one camera and lens to save weight. He chose a Nikon f100 and 5 rolls of portra 400, Velvia 100 and Provia 400.

Kelly Adams is a Lifestyle Family & Wedding Photographer based in Brisbane, Australia. Kelly started her adventures with film photography studying TAFE course in Black & White Darkroom Photography. She then went on to complete a Bachelor of Photography from the Queensland College of Art. Kelly moved to digital photography for more convenient & economical practices of being a working photographer. However a few years ago she returned to using film in her personal work, mostly photographing her family and their adventures together. Kelly has fallen in love all over again with film…. Kelly is now reintroducing film back into her client work, to share the love of film.

Sergio Leyva Seiglie is a photographer born in Havana, Cuba and currently based in Sydney, Australia. His photographs has been showcased in the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Aleppo 12th International Photo Festival and in various collective and solo exhibitions in the Australia, Cuba and Spain. His work has been part of Featured Shoot’s Print Swap and it has also been featured in publications such as Foto8, Inspired Eye Photography Magazine, Social Documentary Network and Japan Camera Hunter.

AFPS Feature: “Southern India Bound”

Andrew resides in Sydney New South Wales and finds excitement and adventure through his family and travel photography. In the time until the next trip (unknown destination or when) he’s focusing his energy towards his family life.

Camera used was a Pentax 67II with the 45mm, 75mm, and 105mm. Fresh and expired films were used and 99% of the film was scanned personally on a Fuji Frontier SP3000 with a couple of frames through an Imacon 646.

Gwyn Morgan

Gwyn lives in Melbourne Australia, currently pushing buttons on cameras is just a part time hobby but he hopes one day he might be lucky enough to earn a full time living from it.

Gwyn uses Canon camera bodies and Sigma lenses, his film camera of choice is Canon 30V with a funky feature that picks the focus point by tracking your eye movement.
Lenses include a 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.4, 24-70mm f2.8, 12-24mm f4.5

Meeda Khalifa

AFPS Feature: “The Deep Blue”

Meeda Khalifa is 31 years old (at the time of this article release) & born in Egypt. After living in Egypt till the age of 22, he is now a German national & has lived in Germany since 2008. Meeda is currently a full-time Aerospace Engineer in Hamburg. But his passion for diving kept him going through diving certifications until he reached the PADI Divemaster level in 2009.

Meeda’s plan for the future is simple, keep diving and keep shooting. He also hopes to keep being able to show the analog photography universe the wonders of the alien underwater world.

All the photos were shot using a Nikonos V camera with a single SB-105 strobe. For color shots mostly Kodak Portra 160 and 400 with a few exceptions of Kodak Ultramax. Black and white shots are with Ilford HP5 400 and Ilford PF4 160.
